WHAT WE LOOK FOR
At FIU Cheer we look for great student ambassadors, sideline cheerleaders, and competitive athletes. Athletes who already possess a strong knowledge of body, motion and jump placement, an athletic image and above all superior showmanship are selected first, followed by those who show a potential and willingness to be at that level.

STEP 1 - ONLINE REGISTRATION

STEP 2 - EMAIL THE FOLLOWING DOCUMENTS to FIUCheer@FIU.EDU
1) Completed and signed FIU ATHLETICS FACILITIES RELEASE FORM
2) Copy of your Letter of Acceptance or Proof of Enrollment
3) Copy of the FRONT & BACK of your INSURANCE CARD
4) Recommendation Letter from a coach, teacher, administrator or manager.
5) Tryout Fee - $30 cash due check-in

*If you are unable to attend tryouts for any reason, a VIDEO TRYOUT must be submitted. Video tryouts must begin with an INTRODUCTION (Filmed in landscape & up close) - Introduce yourself and let us know a little about who you are as an individual and as an athlete, and why you want to be an FIU Cheerleader. We won’t have the opportunity to meet you in person like everyone else, so make sure you allow your personality to be displayed. Show us what you bring to the team, outside of just cheerleading. And include the following elements:

1) Fight Song
Our college Fight Song is where choreography meets school spirit. This FIU Spirit tradition is performed at a majority of major university and athletic functions, pep rallies and at all football and basketball games!

2) Jumps
A) Toe Touch (facing forward)
B) Right or Left Front Hurdler (facing a diagonal/corner)
C) A Pike (facing the side)
D) A triple jump combination of your choosing that can include 3
connected jumps or 2 connected jumps + a single jump (if you can
standing tumble out of the single jump it is encouraged)
3) Stunting Assessment
In addition to general technique (BACK SPOT, MAIN BASE, SIDE BASE, and/or FLYER), showing that you have a
comprehension of any of the following stunts is encouraged:
- Switch Ups
- Tic Tocs
- Full Up variations
- Kick Full/Double Baskets
Those with partner stunt experience should be prepared to show that they have a
comprehension of any of the following stunts:
- Walk in variations to chair, hands and/or extension
- Toss variations to chair, hands and/or extension
Those athletes who identify themselves as a flyer or top girl should
be prepared to show the following body positions.
- Heel Stretch
- Scorpion
- Scale
- Arabesque
4) Tumbling Ability
Sideline Tumbling Skills that are not a requirement but encouraged are:
- A Standing Back Handspring
- A Standing Back Tuck
- 2 or 4 Step Round Off Back Handspring series, Back Tucks, Layouts, and Fulls
Competitive Tumbling Skills that are not a requirement but encouraged are:
- Cartwheel Back Tuck
- Front Walkover, Punch Front or Whip combo passes to a Back Tuck,
X-out, Layout, or Layout Step Out​

Spirit Team Requirements

​
Eligibility for Cheerleaders​

Must be registered for the 2024 Fall & 2025 Spring semester.

Undergraduate student, full time-minimum12 credits
-
STEP Program
-
Graduate Student- minimum 9 credits
-
Students must be enrolled in classes for the Fall 2024 semester. Students accepted for the Spring 2025 semester are not eligible to tryout. We recommend you continue training, and we will see you the following season.

Maintain at least a 2.0 GPA
-
If you are an incoming freshman or transfer student, you MUST provide a letter of acceptance into the university.

If you are current student you MUST provide a copy of your student ID​​
